Sage Health Management Solutions Announces Improved Technology for Analyzing Imaging Reports
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota - June 2, 2010-- Sage Health Management Solutions, Inc. (Sage HMS), an industry leader
in e-ordering imaging technology, is developing new technology that improves the quality of imaging study reports. The value and
quality improvements will come from better analysis of the prose found in radiology reports, with information organized into
structured categories that are easier to understand and use.
The technology utilizes natural language processing commonly found on the Internet, similar to Google search or spam
filtering, to automatically classify the contents of radiology report text for improved communication and outcomes reporting.
Based upon the research of Ayis Pyrros, M.D. who will be acting as a consultant to the project, the new information technology
will accurately serve to alert both Radiologists and Clinicians when a critical value or finding has been recognized.
V. Katherine Gray, President of Sage HMS stated, "Based upon feedback from our physician-users of RadWise and the
advice of both the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), we know the vast
majority of referring physicians preferred more itemized information in their reports. Now with all the options available for
interpretations, physicians can find radiologists who will provide them the kind of reporting that they prefer. In addition, the
new technology will provide much greater data mining opportunities than previously possible. This means more information
available to address insurer's pay-for-performance incentive programs and better tools for hospital quality improvement programs."
This automated outcomes analysis enhances the ability of Sage HMS's RadWise® decision support tool to refine its
recommendations and to evaluate the clinical usefulness of imaging procedures. For radiology reports this technology will improve
timely communication between physicians and assist organizations with compliance for Joint Commission National Patient Safety
Goals.
SAGE Health Management Solutions, Inc., headquartered in Minneapolis, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of DSS, Inc. of
Juno Beach, FL. Sage HMS sells its RadWise e-ordering decision support service to healthcare payers and healthcare providers to
address the 30-40 percent inappropriate radiology diagnostic testing that can be reduced with use of its technology, while
improving the quality, efficiency, and timeliness for patients. For more information, visit www.sagehms.com.
